SHS Athletes of the Week

Natalie Slavin is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. Natalie had a great week, going 4-for-5 in the Southview game, including a two-out, game-tying home run to send the game to extra innings. She finished the week 6-for-9 with three RBIs across the two games. Coach Rob Gwozdz said, "Natalie is truly an inspirational senior leader for the team this year. She has played multiple positions to help the team any way she can. Natalie also excels in the classroom; she is a member of the National Honor Society and was named prom queen by her fellow classmates." Congratulations, Natalie!

Zach Hartzell is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. Zach has really found his rhythm as both a hitter and a dominant blocker on the volleyball court. He continues to put in the work at every practice, focusing on running plays efficiently, improving his swing, strengthening his blocking, and developing a more effective topspin serve. Since returning from spring break, Zach has recorded 27 kills while maintaining an impressive .200 hitting percentage. He’s also added 11 blocks and 4 aces during that stretch. On the season, Zach has totaled 93 kills, 24 blocks, and 11 aces, showing consistent impact in multiple areas of the game. Coach Tyler Haughawout said, "Zach always has a smile on his face, and continues to work day in and day out to get better. Zach is the type of player that you want to have on your team. He is always wiling to give 110% on and off the court." Congratulations, Zach!

Addy Rapp is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. The weather finally cooperated for the softball team allowing Addy Rapp to pick up two wins on the mound. She pitched a shutout victory over Swanton and only gave up one run in a win over Bowling Green. Coach Rob Gwozdz said, "Addy has been an inspirational senior leader with a bunch of young players on this year's team. Her strength has been mentoring these young kids on what “Fear The Tradition” stands for in the program." Congratulations, Addy!

Zach White is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. Zach won four straight matches with no days off against Napoleon, Maumee, Fremont Ross, and Findlay. All in 2 sets. He needed his best tennis on Friday and he delivered! He made some tremendous shots and had some incredible rallies. Coach Mike Fink said, "Zach is our best player, our leader, our role model and a great sport. We are so proud of Zach Attack!" Congratulations, Zach!

Reed Schwieterman is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. At last weekend's Falcon Fest, Reed was outstanding as he recorded 4 Aces, 65 assists, and 12 digs. He brought the energy and hustle the team needed to win the tournament. For the season so far, Reed has 13 aces, 13 kills, 33 digs, and 226 assists. Coach Tyler Haughawout said, "Reed’s importance to this team really can’t be overstated. He’s our vocal leader on the court and the quarterback of our offense. This season, he’s stepped into an even bigger role, running a 5-1 and setting all the way around the court; he’s done an outstanding job embracing that responsibility. Reed consistently brings energy and a positive mindset that keeps us competing at a high level.” Congratulations, Reed!

Denny Rakosik is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. Denny has started off the season strong as he is entering his third year playing boys volleyball. He has stepped into a new role of playing all around as a passer/defender in the back row and an outside hitter in the front row. Denny currently leads the team with most kills as he has recorded 47 kills this season. He had a game high of 16 kills in our home opener against Avon. He has a consistent serve receive passing rating of 2.07 and has recorded 43 digs so far this season. In our 3-1 victory over Amherst Steele, Denny recorded 6 aces, passed with an average of 2.40 , recorded 13 kills, and had 8 digs. Denny continues to improve day in and day out, working on his shots, passing, and his overall game. Coach Tyler Haughawout said, "Denny works hard and has been a great teammate in making sure new players are understanding the game and helping with their form and technique to improve their skills.” Congratulations, Denny!

Alexa Bellman is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. Alexa had an outstanding performance at the NLL Championships where she earned career-best scores on every event. She placed 6th on vault (8.450), 1st on bars (8.600), 3rd on beam (8.875), and 1st on floor (9.250), securing the All-Around title with a 35.175. In addition to her dominant meet performance, Alexa was also recognized as NLL Gymnast of the Year, a testament to her consistency, growth, and impact throughout the entire season. Her ability to rise to the occasion and lead the team with strong, confident routines made this a truly memorable meet. Coach Alexia Koepke said, "Alexa is an exceptional teammate and leader who has been voted captain by her peers for the past two years. She is one of the hardest workers in the gym and sets a standard that inspires everyone around her. Known as the loudest and most supportive cheerleader on the sidelines, Alexa celebrates her teammates’ successes and continuously encourages others to be the best version of themselves. She often shows more excitement for her teammates’ accomplishments than her own, demonstrating her selfless attitude and genuine love for the team. Alexa’s leadership, positivity, and sportsmanship make her an invaluable member of this program.” Congratulations, Alexa!

Caden Taylor is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. Caden Taylor had two strong performances last week, scoring 13 points against Bowling Green and 8 against Napoleon to help the team secure two league victories. Coach Nick Robertson said, "Caden is a model student-athlete who shows up and works hard every day, turning into one of the best shooters on the team. He is a very positive and great teammate and will do whatever is asked of him." Congratulations, Caden!
