Springfield Local Schools continues to provide Title I services. This program, which is sponsored through grant funds made available by the Federal Government, is designed to provide support for our students. Across the district, Title I funds enable the district to support students through a prevention and intervention coordinator which is available for all students in grades K-12. This individual is available to meet with students and families throughout the year to provide services based on referrals from school administrators and counselors in the buildings
Title I funds allow Springfield Local Schools to utilize The Buddy Room program, an alternative to suspension program, which is housed at SHS for students in grades 9-12 and SMS students in grades 6-8. Students are given the opportunity to complete missed school assignments while focusing on positive alternatives to negative behaviors. Title I funds support a position so that at both the high and middle schools there is a school counselor for each grade level. Title I funding also supports a Springfield Digital Academy Teacher who provides supplemental instruction to students enrolled in the online instruction.
In grades K-5, our Interventionists at each building and our K-5 Literacy Coach provide services to students and staff which focus on strengthening literacy skills. Title I includes additional academic support for all students to enhance core instruction. General Educators work collaboratively with the Preschool-5 Curriculum Director, as well as the K-5 Literacy Coach in order to provide evidence-based interventions to improve academic achievement through the MTSS (Multi-tiered Systems of Support) Framework.
