Residency
Springfield Local Schools is not an Open Enrollment district. This means that students who reside outside of the Springfield Schools boundary are not able to enroll in the school district. Residency is defined as a place where you eat, sleep and keep your daily living items at least 5 days a week.
Knowingly falsifying residency is a violation of the Ohio Revised Code: Section 2921.13 (A)(6) which is a First Degree Misdemeanor punishable by a prison term of six (6) months and/or a fine up to $1,000.00. Further the affiant will be billed (and prosecuted in court, if necessary) to collect all back tuition which may be due. Inaccurate and/or false information will result in immediate withdrawal of your child(ren) from the Springfield Local School District. The Board of Education reserves the right to verify for each student residency and other conditions of eligibility for tuition-free education as well as the validity of the claim of any student to an education in the District. (Board Policy #5111).
The following documents are accepted as proof of residency:
If a family rents or leases:
- Please provide a copy of a valid and current lease agreement containing renter's name, lease term, address, landlord's name and contact information.
If a family owns a home or recently purchased:
- Please provide a copy of the signed purchase agreement, settlement statement, closing disclosure or printed copy of Lucas County Areis information.
If a family is living with someone that is the owner of the home:
- Complete a Residency Verification form AND provide two bills within the last 30 days. (Note: For new enrollments, using the school notary is required.)
