    When and Where Are Board Meetings Held?

    A Board of Education in the State of Ohio can only take action at meetings open to the public. Included above is a link for the Springfield Board of Education's 2024/2025 schedule. The monthly business meetings typically take place in the district's Administration Building, located at 6924 Spring Valley Drive in Holland.

    The Board of Education reserves the right to relocate a meeting to ensure the safety of members and attendees - this will typically transpire should the expected crowd size be in excess of the meeting room's capacity.

    If the schedule or location is adjusted for any reason, that information is posted and the community is notified in advance via the website and through available media (print, electronic, social)

    Working with the Board of Education

    Addressing the Board of Education: To permit citizens to be heard and at the same time conduct its meetings efficiently, members of the Board will hear the public only at times scheduled for such comments.

    A citizen, community or school related group who wishes to be formally placed on the agenda at a Board meeting must give notice to Ms. Cheri Casper, administrative assistant to Springfield Local Schools' Superintendent Mr. Matt Geha, 48-hours in advance of the meeting. Notice must include name and address of person, telephone number, name of group and topic to be addressed. To reach Ms. Casper via telephone, please call the school district at 419.867.5604. Comments will be limited to three minutes per person and 15 minutes per topic. Exceptions for additional time may be granted by the Board of Education President.

    Portrait of a Graduate: In 2020, Springfield Local Schools assembled a Portrait of a Graduate Design Team to explore:

    • the hopes, dreams, and aspirations that our district collaborators have for our young people
    • the skills and mindsets that our children need for success in this rapidly changing and complex word
    • the implications for the design of the learning experiences; equitable access to the experiences provided in our school district. 

    The team identified and defined six specific competencies desired for all Springfield graduates:  Adaptability, Communication, Critical Thinking, Integrity, Leadership, and  Perseverance. TO learn more, please select the following link

    Ken Musch Board Room Dedication

    Longtime Board of Education colleague Ken Musch began the 2023 Organizational Meeting with what we hope will be a year-long celebration on Everett W Harris’ 50-year service on the Springfield Local Schools Board of Education. He shared wonderful comments that included, "Together, you and I have worked hard and invested our time to help Springfield Schools become one of the top school districts in the region. We have attended most events and activities, almost every Ohio School Boards Association meeting, conference, and program. I am sure that it is not because of your longevity that you are so respected in this state and beyond - it is because of your humanity; your unwillingness to accept ONLY what is easy, and your example of the importance of compromise. Mostly - as long as everyone eventually agrees with YOU!! The respect that you model for your colleagues is something that is sorely lacking in today's world - well, everywhere other than within this Board. Here, it is part of our culture. For 50 years, you have balanced your passion for Springfield's students and staff with compromise; you have demanded and shown commitment to the needs of this district but never at the expense of family and friends; and you have redefined the depth of professional and personal friendship." Following the receipt of tributes and proclamations from area elected officials and friends, Mr. Harris was presented with a rendering of the Everett W Harris Administrative and Education Complex - the district's newest facility that will bear his name when in opens later this year.

    The role, scope, and function of public school board members often are misinterpreted by the public. The board is a policymaking body and members are the chief advisers to the district’s superintendent on community attitudes. Board members do not manage the day-to-day  operations of a school district; they see to it that the system is managed well by professional administrators.

    In Springfield, our Board of Education members engage in activities and   model behaviors that lead to excellence.  Each of our members work tirelessly on behalf of our families and community  Their efforts are mostly unseen, yet deserve recognition!
