SHS Athletes of the Week

Logan Goodrick is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. Logan led the football team's offensive charge in the season opening 42-14 win against Maumee. He had 282 passing yards and 4 passing touchdowns, sharing the wealth with three different receivers. He also had 5 tackles and was a major factor on special teams as our kicker and punter, pinning them deep in their own territory multiple times. Coach Sam Arredondo said, "Logan is our team's undisputed leader and a major reason that his teammates have bought into our new approach. He never missed a summer workout, practice, or volunteer opportunity, routinely picking up teammates to ensure they could make it to practice. There are few young leaders with his ability to make those around him better.” Congratulations, Logan!

Byron Jackson is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. Byron had 3 receptions for 93 yards and 2 TDs in the football team's week 1 win over Maumee, averaging 31 yards per reception. His efficient output was capped off by a 48 yard touchdown catch to make the score 42-14. Coach Sam Arredondo said, "Byron has embraced our team's vision, mission, and goals, leading by example and vocally. He worked hard to be ready for our season opener after seriously injuring his hand during a 7on7 in July. His commitment and determination to be great make him an outstanding example of a Blue Devil football player.” Congratulations, Byron!

Macy DeRaedt is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. Macy has demonstrated superior leadership on and off the field for the girls soccer team this season. Coach Jayson Taylor said, "Macy has been a consistent leader for the team this year, starting with her role in the off-season. As a senior captain she has led our team to win our first two games, including scoring two goals of her own to go along with multiple assists.” Congratulations, Macy!

David Eckel is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. David took 1st place at the OHSAA's preseason Open Race held in Columbus. David also took 8th place out of 264 runners at the Eastwood Night Race this past weekend. Coach Mike Shull said, "David has been a leader everyday this summer, setting the tone for the team. He remains positive and dedicated to the sport." Congratulations, David!

Brady Ruckman is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. Brady led the boys golf team with two of his best rounds, shooting even at the Rossford Invitational and then shooting the top score of the team's first match against Scott. Coach Cory Cantu said, "Brady, although not a senior, is a great leader for the golf team and someone everyone looks up to, especially the underclassmen that came out this year!" Kyle Mortus is an Athlete of the Week for Springfield High School. The boys soccer team kicked off the season with a strong 8-0 win against Lake. Kyle made an early season statement finishing with 3 goals and 2 assists. Coach Adam Sloan said, "Kyle has been selected as a team captain this year. Known for his work ethic and dedication to the team, Kyle has also shown leadership and helped set the standard on and off the field.
