Mr. Ryan Grooms is a proud alumni of Springfield High School (Class of 1995) and returned to the district 22 years ago as a teacher! After many years at SMS, he was instrumental in accelerating our online learning programs.  Under his guidance, the former Springfield Opportunity School transitioned into the Springfield Digital Academy and became one of the most effective online learning options in our region; many school districts have since modeled their programs after it! In June, 2022, Mr. Grooms was hired as the district's Curriculum Coordinator for grades 6-12.

Teaching and Learning

The Springfield Local Schools' Teaching and Learning Department oversees the district's curriculum, instruction, intervention, assessment, and the professional development opportunities provided for certified staff.

Mrs. Taryn Miley
Taryn

Mrs. Taryn Miley is a proud alumna of Springfield High School with over 27 years of experience in the educational field. She spent over 17 years in the district as a 1st-5th grade classroom teacher at Crissey Elementary School before transitioning, because of her recognized expertise and drive to engage learners and develop life-long reader, Mrs. Miley was tapped for several administrative roles before becoming the district's Director of Teaching and Learning in 2022. In July, 2023, her expertise was recognized with the elevation to Assistant Superintendent of Academic Affairs. She is passionate about improving literacy practices, advancing S.T.E.A.M. initiatives, and developing teacher leaders. #springfieldstrong!

Mrs. Jen Murphy
Jen Murphy

Mrs. Jen Murphy is a proud community member and parent to two students at Springfield High School. She joined Springfield Local Schools as an employee in January 2020 as the Attendance Secretary at Holland Elementary, now known as Holland Intermediate. In June of 2020 she became the Secretary to the Principal at Holland Intermediate and held that position for 3 years. In October 2023 she transitioned to the Administration Office as the Enrollment Coordinator, assisting families in their educational journey with Springfield Local Schools. Mrs. Murphy is currently serving as the Administrative Assistant to the Assistant Superintendent of Academic Affairs.
